Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Montage™ and Medley™ panels?

Montage™ panels are fabric-wrapped acoustic panels made with a Basotect G+ melamine foam core and feature a self-adhesive backing for quick and easy installation. In contrast, Medley™ panels use a glass wool core with a fabric finish but do not include a self-adhesive backing, requiring alternative fixings.

What’s the difference between Basotect G+ (melamine foam) and Glass Wool Core?

  • Basotect G+ (Melamine Foam): This lightweight, open-cell foam is renowned for its excellent sound absorption and fire resistance. It is non-fibrous, does not shed particles, and offers a cleaner finish, making it ideal for environments where air quality and low maintenance are priorities. The self-adhesive backing on Montage™ panels also makes installation simpler and provides a secure bond.
  • Glass Wool Core: Glass wool is a dense, fibrous material known for its high sound absorption and good thermal insulation properties. It is typically heavier than melamine foam and requires additional fixings for secure installation. While it offers excellent acoustic performance, glass wool may release fibres when cut or handled, so it requires more care during installation.

Acoustic Performance Differences:

  • Montage™ (Melamine Foam Core): Basotect G+ provides excellent absorption of mid to high frequencies, making it well-suited for controlling reverberation and reducing echo in speech-heavy environments like offices, meeting rooms, and classrooms.
  • Medley™ (Glass Wool Core): Glass wool offers broader frequency absorption, particularly effective in environments with a wide range of noise sources. It excels in reducing both low and high-frequency sounds, making it a strong choice for areas with significant background noise or where enhanced acoustic control is required.

In summary, choose Montage™ for its ease of installation and clean, low-maintenance finish, and opt for Medley™ if you need broader frequency absorption and enhanced thermal insulation, even if it requires a bit more effort to install.

Our standard fabric is Camira Cara & Sonus, though we can produce panels with alternative fabrics upon request.

Yes, while we offer a standard selection of popular sizes, it’s possible to customise the shape of the Montage™ EasyFix panel to meet your specific requirements.

However, there are limitations regarding shape and maximum size due to weight and panel dimensions. The largest panel size available is 2700mm x 1200mm 40mm. Please contact us to discuss the possibilities.

The number of Medley™ panels you'll need depends on the dimensions of the space and the desired level of acoustic coverage. Here’s a simple guide to help:

  1. Measure the Area: Calculate the total square footage (or square meters) of the wall or ceiling where you’ll install the panels.
  2. Panel Size: Check the dimensions of each Montage™ EasyFix panel to understand how much area one panel will cover.
  3. Coverage Percentage: For moderate sound control, covering about 30-50% of the surface area is usually sufficient. For higher sound absorption (e.g., in studios or performance spaces), consider covering 70% or more.
  4. Calculate Panel Quantity: Divide the total area you want to cover by the area each panel covers to estimate the number of panels needed.

If you'd like a more specific calculation, feel free to provide the area dimensions, and I can help determine the quantity.

The best placement for your Medley™ panels depends on the acoustic issues you want to address. For general noise reduction and better sound clarity, position the panels at primary reflection points—these are areas where sound bounces off the walls first, such as directly opposite speakers, or on side walls in meeting rooms and offices.

For spaces with significant echo or reverberation (like large rooms or high ceilings), consider placing panels on both walls and ceilings to maximise sound absorption. In home theatres or studios, focus on the rear and side walls for optimal sound quality. If you’re unsure, feel free to get in touch, and we can provide guidance tailored to your specific space.

Medley™ panels are versatile and work well in a wide range of environments. They are ideal for spaces where reducing noise and improving sound clarity are important, such as:

  • Offices: Minimise noise distractions and create a more comfortable working environment.
  • Meeting Rooms: Enhance speech clarity and reduce echo for better communication.
  • Home Theatres and Studios: Improve audio quality by absorbing unwanted reflections.
  • Schools and Classrooms: Help control noise levels, aiding concentration and reducing stress.
  • Restaurants and Cafés: Create a quieter, more enjoyable dining experience for guests.
  • Sports Halls and Gyms: Reduce echo and reverberation in large, open spaces.
  • Home Offices: Improve acoustics for clearer virtual meetings and a more professional sound.

These panels are well-suited for any area that requires better sound control, from commercial spaces to residential settings.

Medley™ panels are expertly crafted to minimise noise and control sound reflections in a room. The fibrous glass wool core effectively absorbs sound waves, reducing echo and reverberation. By dampening unwanted noise and improving sound clarity, these panels help create a more comfortable and acoustically balanced environment, whether it’s for clearer speech, enhanced audio quality, or a quieter space overall.

Medley™ panels are designed to absorb sound within a room, effectively reducing echoes and enhancing sound clarity. However, they are not specifically intended for blocking external noise, such as loud neighbours. If you're dealing with noise from adjacent spaces, additional soundproofing solutions like wall insulation or barrier panels may be necessary to effectively reduce the sound transmission.

Start by lightly marking the outline of the Medley™ panel on the installation area. Next, attach a minimum of 4 stick pins per panel securely to the wall. Align the panel with the marked area and gently press it, allowing the stick pins to grip into the panel. Once you’re satisfied with the positioning, press firmly across the entire surface to ensure strong contact with the wall.

For extra support, apply spray contact adhesive vertically on the back of the panel and horizontally on the wall, making sure to cover the areas with stick pins. Allow the adhesive to dry for 2-4 minutes at 23°C before securing in place.

If you prefer a permanent installation, use TACFIX adhesive. Apply it to the back of the panel before affixing it to the wall, but always double-check the alignment first to avoid any mistakes.

Each Medley™ Wall Panel order includes the necessary number of impaling clips. These clips are a mechanical fixing method that needs to be screwed into the wall. The only additional fixings required are the screws to attach the clips, which are not supplied as they depend on your specific wall type (e.g., plasterboard, concrete, or timber). Your local DIY store can recommend the most suitable screws for your wall structure. You may also opt to use our contact adhesive for extra strength and a more secure installation.

When installing Medley™ Wall panels, it’s important to choose the correct mounting surface for a secure and durable installation.

Suitable surfaces include:

  • Drywall or Plasterboard: Panels can be installed directly using adhesive and mechanical fixings.
  • Concrete Walls: Use a heavy-duty adhesive along with mechanical fasteners for best results.
  • Brick and Masonry Walls: Apply adhesive and use mechanical methods for a strong bond.
  • Lightly Painted Walls: Roughen the surface slightly to enhance adhesion. Avoid glossy, heavily textured, or damaged painted surfaces.

Selecting the right compatible surface is key for secure installation and optimal acoustic performance. For a detailed step-by-step guide, please refer to our installation instructions in the data sheet on this page

Yes, Medley™ panels can be removed or repositioned if you install them using Stick Pins. This method allows you to easily adjust or take down the panels without damaging the wall or the panels themselves. For permanent installations, however, additional adhesives would make repositioning not possible.

Due to the weight of this product, we do not recommend ceiling installation.

However, the Tranquil Raft offers a great alternative. It features the same material but comes with suspension fixings, allowing it to be installed as a hanging raft instead of a direct fix.

Alternatively, for a direct ceiling installation, we suggest using Montage™ EasyFix panels.
