Frequently Asked Questions

Our standard fabric is Camira Cara & Sonus, though we can produce panels with alternative fabrics upon request.

Yes, while we offer a standard selection of popular sizes, it’s possible to customise the shape of the Tranquil™ Raft to meet your specific requirements. However, there are limitations regarding shape and maximum size due to weight and panel dimensions. The largest panel size available is 2400mm x 1200mm with a thickness of 40mm. Please contact us to discuss the possibilities.

The number of Tranquil™ panels you'll need depends on the dimensions of the space and the desired level of acoustic coverage. Here’s a simple guide to help:

    • Measure the Area: Calculate the total square footage (or square meters) of the ceiling where you’ll suspend the panels.
    • Panel Size: Check the dimensions of each Tranquil™ Raft panel to understand how much area one panel will cover.
    • Coverage Percentage: For moderate sound control, covering about 30-50% of the surface area is usually sufficient. For higher sound absorption (e.g., in studios or performance spaces), consider covering 70% or more.
    • Calculate Panel Quantity: Divide the total area you want to cover by the area each panel covers to estimate the number of panels needed.

If you'd like a more specific calculation, feel free to provide the area dimensions, and I can help determine the quantity.

The best placement for your Tranquil™ Rafts depends on the acoustic issues you want to address. For general noise reduction and better sound clarity with a Class A acoustic performance, position the rafts in the ceiling with 300mm airgap. If you’re unsure, feel free to get in touch, and we can provide guidance tailored to your specific space.

Tranquil™ rafts are versatile and work well in a wide range of environments. They are ideal for spaces where reducing noise and improving sound clarity are important, such as:

  • Offices: Minimise noise distractions and create a more comfortable working environment.
  • Meeting Rooms: Enhance speech clarity and reduce echo for better communication.
  • Home Theatres and Studios: Improve audio quality by absorbing unwanted reflections.
  • Schools and Classrooms: Help control noise levels, aiding concentration and reducing stress.
  • Restaurants and Cafés: Create a quieter, more enjoyable dining experience for guests.
  • Sports Halls and Gyms: Reduce echo and reverberation in large, open spaces.
  • Home Offices: Improve acoustics for clearer virtual meetings and a more professional sound.

These panels are well-suited for any area that requires better sound control, from commercial spaces to residential settings.

Tranquil™ Rafts are expertly crafted to minimise noise and control sound reflections in a room. The fibrous glass wool core effectively absorbs sound waves, reducing echo and reverberation. By dampening unwanted noise and improving sound clarity, these panels help create a more comfortable and acoustically balanced environment, whether it’s for clearer speech, enhanced audio quality, or a quieter space overall.

Tranquil™ Rafts are designed to absorb sound within a room, effectively reducing echoes and enhancing sound clarity. However, they are not specifically intended for blocking external noise, such as loud neighbors. If you're dealing with noise from adjacent spaces, additional soundproofing solutions like wall insulation or barrier panels may be necessary to effectively reduce the sound transmission.

To suspend the Tranquil™ Rafts from the soffit, with the supplied fixings to the panel. These fixings include a spiral hook with a 1.5m cable length.

To begin installation, securely embed the spiral hook into the raft by rotating it clockwise, then insert it into the clip hook. The cable length can be easily adjusted for effortless height modification. Finally, secure the Top Hat to the ceiling by screwing it.

For optimal stability, ideal recommend maintaining a 300mm gap from the ceiling and also with the hooks positioned approximately 250mm from the panel’s edges.

When installing Tranquil™ Rafts panels, it’s important to choose the correct fixings for a secure and durable installation. Suitable surfaces include:

    • Drywall or Plasterboard: Rafts can be installed directly using mechanical fixings.
    • Concrete Ceilings: Use heavy-duty screws to secure the rafts directly to the ceiling with mechanical fixings.

Selecting the right compatible surface is key for secure installation and optimal acoustic performance. For a detailed step-by-step guide, please refer to our installation instructions in the data sheet on this page

Yes, Tranquil™ Rafts panels can be removed or repositioned using the Hanging wire kits Fixings. This method allows you to easily adjust or take down the panels without damaging the ceiling or the panels themselves.

Tranquil™ Rafts panels are crafted with a high-density glass wool core, featuring 56% post-consumer recycled glass fibre. This eco-friendly material offers excellent sound absorption properties. The core is wrapped in a durable fabric finish, providing both a sleek appearance and enhanced acoustic performance. This combination ensures effective noise reduction and improved sound quality in a wide range of environments.

Tranquil™Rafts are designed for high sound absorption, effectively reducing echo and reverberation across a wide range of frequencies. With their dense glass wool core, they provide excellent acoustic performance, achieving up to a Class A sound absorption rating. This makes them ideal for improving sound clarity and reducing noise in various settings, including offices, classrooms, studios, and public spaces. Fire Performance

Acoustic panels using the Absorb 40 mm PET core are manufactured as composite products, consisting of a PET acoustic core combined with a fabric finish.

Core Material Fire Rating

The Absorb 40 mm PET core has been independently tested in accordance with EN 13501-1 and achieves a Class B reaction-to-fire classification when assessed as a standalone material.

This indicates limited contribution to fire and controlled fire behaviour under tested conditions.
(Test reports are available on request.)

Fabric Fire Ratings

A wide range of fire-rated acoustic fabrics is available.

As standard, fabrics supplied meet a minimum Class B fire rating, with alternative fire-rated fabrics available on request to suit specific project or regulatory requirements.
Fabric fire test certification can be provided upon request.

Composite System – Important Information

The complete composite system (core + fabric) is not fire tested as standard, and no declared EN 13501-1 classification is claimed for the assembled product.

The reaction-to-fire performance of a fabric-wrapped acoustic panel is influenced by multiple factors, including:

Core material
Fabric type and weight
Adhesive system
Fixing method
Substrate and air gap
Project-Specific Testing

Where a declared reaction-to-fire classification is required, testing of the complete composite system can be arranged on request, subject to test scope, lead time, and cost.
